Welcome to BELGIUM

Information about BELGIUM Belgium must be one of Europe’s best kept secrets. It has a proud artistic heritage, it is linguistically diverse and it is practically next door to Paris, London and Amsterdam. It has long been an important centre of international commerce, and this is reflected in the various architectural influences, with the Austrians, the Spanish, the French and the Dutch all having left their mark. Belgian folklore is as important today as ever, and this plays an important role in popular culture with festivals and parades all year round, and all Belgians will tell you that their chocolate and their beer is the best in the world. The country suffered enormously during both World Wars, however this dark period of their history is commemorated tactfully and in fascinating detail in various museums and visitor centres. Despite being one of the smaller countries in Europe, the name Belgium is synonymous with many of the important changes which have taken place on the continent in recent years. Indeed, Brussels is home to both both NATO and the European Union. Its economy is still strongly linked to the state of the world markets, and its main commercial centres are all close to its major North Sea ports.
